5 Stars or not!!!!!
We were awarded 5stars by the Tourist Board
iinspector on the 22/02/2006 for Squirrel Cottage.
At the end of May we were advised that for 5 stars
you need two inspection passes. So on the 6th June
along came another inspector who advised us Squirrel
Cottage is only 4 stars as the loo is not seperate to the
bathroom. Also the kitchen, although perfectly adequate
and comfortable for two people is not suitable for more
people.(How many people do you want in your kitchen to
help prepare the meal one asks? Even though Squirrel
Cottage only sleeps two.) Their reasoning is that you
might like to entertain lots of people when staying at
Squirrel Cottage.

Squirrel Cottage's marks from the Tourist Board
Assessors were 90%
.
5 Star accommodation requires a mark of 87% or better!!!

Wild Life.
Last yearwe saw regular visits to the feeders by a family
of Jays. They even brought their 2006 youngsters. The
autum seeds from all the various trees and bushes, were
plentiful, so the Jays have only been back briefly in the
autumn searching for acorns in the oak woods behind
Squirrel Cottage .

Red Squirrels - we have a huge number of Red Squirrels
about this winter (2007/8), which is surprising as the frost
iin the spring did not kill all the flowers on the trees and bushes
so there should be plenty of squirrel food about. One of our guests
idenetified 16 different red squirrels (noting all their characteristics too)
this summer. Well worth a read in our wild life obseravtion book.

We are now feeding Niger seeds, which has brought in
Siskins and Gold Finch to the garden, which are great
to see.

Our new bio-fire place
The mahaogany bio fire place in squirrel cottage living room
We have installed a bio-fire place
in the living room. This environmentally
friendly fire burns plant fuel giving off
carbon dioxide and non toxic fumes. It
has a real flame, all adding to make for
cosy winter nights in. If you decide to
book we will demonstrate the fire to
you on arrival.

The newly decorated and insulated bedoom
On our trip to India, for two weeks in
February 2006, we came back with two
lovely carpets for the sitting room. Well,
we hope you also think so!
