Bird life in Highland Perthshire area
of Pitlochry, Killiecrankie and Blair Atholl.
Highland Perthshire has some fantastic birds. Hearing the dawn chorous in may with the national trust rangers is something not to be missed!
There are a whole host birds that can be seen on walks in the Killiecrankie area. From Buzzards, to Dippers bobbing in out of the water of the River Garry, Tree Creepers,Tawny Owls (can often be heard during January calling to make sure everyone knows where their territory is), Jays, to one of the many summer visitors Pied Flycatchers.
In the drive on the way up to Squirrel Cottage there is a Rookery, which is very active from about March through to early July. The too-ing and fro-ings is fascinating to watch.
Slightly further a field at Butterstone near Dunkeld you will be able to visit the RSPB bird hide where you can see Osprey during the summer months.
